What governments advise
Advice in 2025, when protests spread across Indonesia, was to avoid protests and large gatherings, because they can turn violent without warning (UK and Australian advice quoted by the press). We did not read a 2026 change: check your own government's travel page before you go, and see Bali safety for Americans for the US advice.
What to do on your trip
- Avoid demonstrations, including near government buildings in Denpasar and Singaraja.
- Keep fuel in the scooter if you ride: see scooter rental.
- Follow local news and your hotel's notices; allow extra time to the airport, see airport transfer.
- Have travel insurance that covers disruption: travel insurance for Bali.
- Know the other risks: scams and safety and volcano flight disruptions.
Where tourists stay
Resort and tourist areas (Ubud, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, Uluwatu) are away from the government district. Compare areas in where to stay in Bali.
