Arriving at Bali airport

On arrival you clear immigration, collect your bags and leave the terminal. Bali's tourist levy (150,000 rupiah per person for foreign visitors, payable on the Love Bali portal) is settled before or on arrival: keep the QR code saved offline. In the arrivals hall, drivers approach you: this is where prices inflate. Read our advice on scams and safety in Bali. To be reachable as soon as you land, see eSIM or SIM card in Bali.
The official counter taxi
The airport taxi cooperative's counter sells a fixed-price ticket by destination; one guide says you get a receipt with the destination and fare, to be paid at the counter before being taken to the taxi. Figures vary widely: one site gives about 100,000 rupiah for Seminyak, 130,000 for Canggu and 250,000 for Ubud, while another guide gives 150,000 to 200,000 for Seminyak, 250,000 to 350,000 for Canggu and 400,000 to 600,000 for Ubud. Add 10,000 to 15,000 rupiah for tolls. Ask for the written receipt, and if you are quoted a price aloud only, ask to see the price list.
Grab and Gojek
Grab and Gojek operate at the airport, with pickup zones signposted inside the terminal according to recent guides. One guide gives a trip to Ubud at around 300,000 to 450,000 rupiah, with rises at peak times. Pickup rules have changed in recent years: check the meeting point in the app, and be ready to walk a little.
A private transfer booked in advance
A driver with a sign bearing your name, a fixed price known in advance and a suitable vehicle: this is the simplest option for a family, a group or a night arrival. One guide gives about 200,000 to 300,000 rupiah to Seminyak by private car; offers vary with the vehicle, the number of passengers and the season. Check what is included (waiting time if your flight is late, tolls, name sign).
The hotel or villa
Many hotels and villas offer a transfer: ask the price when you book and compare it with the taxi. It helps if your villa is hard to find.

Journey times
Seminyak is the closest, about half an hour. Canggu takes about an hour, Uluwatu about an hour, Ubud an hour and a half or more depending on traffic, and Amed or East Bali roughly two and a half to three hours (estimates). Traffic is often blocked in the late afternoon, and on the road to Ubud at weekends. For the west, see Canggu and Seminyak; for the south, Uluwatu; for the centre, Ubud; for the east, Amed.
Back to the airport
Leave a large margin: traffic can be heavy, and the airport fills up in high season. Leave early if you stay in Ubud or Canggu, and book the transfer the day before.
