Hours to avoid
Traffic thickens in late morning and above all in late afternoon in the south, around Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu; at weekends and on ceremony days some roads are closed or slow. For the airport, leave early and allow a two-hour margin from Ubud. Several guides advise asking the driver to take the Bali Mandara toll road to avoid part of Denpasar.
How to organise your moves
A private driver by the day avoids parking and driving; for the detail of links see Ubud to Canggu and Seminyak and the airport transfer. Plan one sector a day rather than a round trip between Ubud and the south.
