The summary

| Situation | What guides say | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Airport | Contradictory sources; pick-up zone about 300 m from the gate according to one | Walk to the zone, expect a cancellation |
| "No-ojek" villages | Drop-off allowed, pick-up banned | Plan a driver for the return |
| Seminyak to Ubud | about 10 to 18 USD by car depending on traffic | Compare Grab and Gojek |
| Official airport taxi to Ubud | about 400,000 to 500,000 IDR | Pricier than the app in town, but no surprises |
At the airport
Guides disagree. One 2026 source says Grab and Gojek operate officially with signed lounges and zones; another, updated in July 2026, says they cannot pick up passengers at the main arrivals and that you must reach a designated zone or wait outside the gates. A third describes a walk of about 300 m to the zone, with drivers who may cancel if you book from the terminal. One source also notes that app prices at the airport are inflated. To avoid the wait and disputes, compare with a transfer booked in advance: see Bali airport transfer and private driver.
The "no-ojek" zones
In some areas, the apps can drop you off but cannot pick you up. No current list was found: ask your hotel before relying on an app to get home, especially in the evening. A 2025 source says the authorities wanted to put online and traditional taxis under the same rules, without detail.
Prices and choice
A car ride from Seminyak to Ubud usually costs 10 to 18 USD depending on traffic and demand (one source). Peak prices rise in the evening, in the rain and when the beaches empty. Compare both apps and do not get in if the driver offers another price outside the app. A motorbike is cheaper but not advised with luggage or in the rain; if you prefer to drive yourself, see scooter rental in Bali.
When to prefer a private driver
For a day of excursions, an airport round trip or an area with no apps (Uluwatu late at night, villages in the east), a driver by the day is simpler and the pick-up is guaranteed. See private driver in Bali. Also keep internet access: an eSIM or SIM card to use the apps on arrival, and see scams and safety.
