What to do by layover length
| Layover | Realistic option | To remember |
|---|---|---|
| Under 6 h | Stay at the airport | Lounge, meal, eSIM; no entry formalities |
| 6 to 10 h | Kuta or Sanur beach, a meal, back | Visa + IDR 150,000 levy; bags in storage |
| 10 to 14 h | Half-day excursion | Private driver with flexible hours |
| Over 14 h | A night at a hotel near the airport | More comfortable than rushing |
Luggage, visa and connection
Bags can stay in the airport left luggage or in town: see luggage storage in Bali. On a single ticket your suitcases are often checked through to the final destination: ask before you leave the terminal. For the visa and levy, read visa and tourist levy. An eSIM installed before the flight gives you internet on landing: eSIM or SIM card in Bali.
Getting into town and back in time
The south of the island is close to the airport (Kuta, Seminyak), but Canggu and Ubud take an hour to an hour and a half or more depending on traffic (estimates). Prices and transport options: from the airport to Ubud, Canggu or Seminyak. Agree a firm return time with the driver and keep a margin of at least one hour.
