Waterfalls near Ubud
Tegenungan waterfall is the easiest and most visited: you look at it from a viewpoint then go down a stairway. Around noon the crowd is densest: arrive early. Tibumana, Tukad Cepung and Kanto Lampo are quieter alternatives; for their entrance fees, guides quote about IDR 15,000 to 25,000 per adult, without an official source and with differences. They are often combined in day tours from Ubud.
Sekumpul, the finest in the north
Sekumpul waterfall is a group of falls in a jungle valley in the Buleleng region. You go down a long stairway, cross a river then climb back: it is a real walk. According to our page, three options are set by the village (viewpoint only around IDR 20,000, medium and long treks much more expensive, with a guide required for the treks). From Ubud the road is long: allow a full day, with a driver or a tour that includes the transfer. Other northern falls, such as Git Git, can be visited on the same trip.
When to go
In the dry season (April to October) the flow is lower but the trails are safer. In the rainy season (November to March) there is more water, but steps and rocks are slippery and floods can close access.
