The classic Ubud circuit: rice terraces, temple, waterfall
This is the best-selling format: the Tegallalang rice terraces, the Tirta Empul temple and often the Tegenungan waterfall or another stop in the same area. Distances are short, half a day is enough, and the circuit suits a late start. Check whether entry fees and swings are included: they are often extra. An early start avoids the crowd at Tegallalang.
East Bali: Lempuyang, Tirta Gangga and Besakih
It is a long day: the drive from Ubud takes about 2.5 to 3 hours each way (see the Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang). Departure is around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning to arrive before the crowd. Without that, the photo wait reaches several hours. The tour often pairs Tirta Gangga and the Besakih temple. It is worth it for the variety of landscapes, not for the photo alone. If you fear the wait, compare with the nearby Lahangan Sweet viewpoint. Ask what is included (entry, shuttle, sarong, lunch).
Mount Batur sunrise
A night hike up a volcano: departure around 2:00 in the morning, sunrise at the summit, breakfast and back by 9:00 or 10:00. It is the region's most popular outing, and it frees the rest of the day. See Mount Batur and the Batur sunrise trek. Closed shoes and a jacket are essential; the climb suits most walkers.
Adventure days: rafting, quad, swing
For families or a group, Ubud's activities combine well: rafting on the Ayung, quad biking and swings. These formats usually include the transfer and sometimes a meal. Check the minimum age, the height requirement and whether a change of clothes is provided.
A tailor-made day with a private driver
A private driver for the day lets you choose your stops and your pace, and costs less per person if there are three or four of you. You arrange tickets and meals yourself. It is the best format for combining Tegallalang early in the morning, a temple and a lunch on a terrace, without following a group.

FAQ
How long do you need to visit Ubud?
Two to three days let you see the town and do one or two tours. One day is enough for the centre or for a tour, not for both.
What is the best tour for a first visit?
The classic circuit (rice terraces, water temple, waterfall), because it is short, varied and needs no night departure.
Can you do Lempuyang and Ubud on the same day?
Yes, but the day is very long: allow about 2.5 to 3 hours each way by road from Ubud and a variable wait at the gate. A departure before dawn is advised.
