Getting from Bali to Komodo
There is no practical direct crossing: flights leave Denpasar (DPS) for Labuan Bajo (LBJ), the boats' departure town, with several airlines according to one source. Plan to arrive the day before in Labuan Bajo so you do not miss the morning boarding. On the way back, book a flight with a margin after the cruise ends. 2 days or 3 days?
A 2-day/1-night cruise sees the essentials (Kalong, Padar, Pink Beach, dragons, Manta Point depending on the programme) but at speed; the Padar visit depends on the sea and is sometimes decided the evening before. A 3-day/2-night cruise leaves more time for diving and snorkelling and less rush: the format to pick if you want more than the viewpoint. Shared boats are cheapest; private and luxury boats cost far more, from 975 USD per person for a 2-day private boat according to one source.
When to go
The park's high season runs from July to October, with departures filling months ahead and a visitor quota reported since April 2026 by several sources. Manta rays are reliably seen from December to March according to one of them. The dry season is safest for a calm sea; off season, the price is lower but swell can change the programme.
What to plan
Bring sunscreen, closed shoes for the Padar hike, swimwear and a towel. Park fees, island and ranger fees and sometimes snorkelling are often paid separately: check what the cruise price includes. Make sure you have travel insurance for Bali that covers water activities. For a shorter escape from Bali, see Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands.
