Crystal Bay, a swimming bay on the west coast of Nusa Penida

The west tour: Kelingking, Broken Beach, Crystal Bay

This is the classic tour and the one most excursions sell. It starts at Kelingking Beach, the dinosaur-shaped viewpoint, then Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach, two neighbouring clifftop sites, and often ends at Crystal Bay for a swim. Arrive early: the groups come around 10:00. The Kelingking staircase is steep and dangerous, go down only if you are fit.

Broken Beach, the arch on the west coast of Nusa Penida

The east tour: Diamond Beach and Atuh

It is less sold and less crowded. Diamond Beach, with its white cliffs and staircase, and Atuh are the two most cited stops. The east roads are longer and more damaged, and the tour takes longer for fewer stops. It is a good choice for a second visit or a night on the island.

Both in one day?

No: two tours in one day are too tight, with the last boat back around 17:00. To see both, sleep one night on the island; see Nusa Penida. If you also want to swim with manta rays, see Manta Point.

Yes, a single tour (west or east), with an early departure from Sanur.

Is a scooter advisable?

Not for a beginner: the roads are narrow, steep and sometimes damaged. A driver or a tour is safer.
