Kelingking Beach (T-Rex): access, stairs, price and best time
Kelingking Beach is the most photographed viewpoint on Nusa Penida: a cliff shaped like a dinosaur plunging into the ocean, with a small white-sand beach at the bottom. Most people enjoy the view from the top, but a very steep path goes down to the beach. This page tells you what to know before you go: access, entry fee, how hard the stairs are, the dangers of swimming and recommended hours. Information noted in October 2026; entry fees changed in 2026, so confirm them on site. For the rest of the island, see Nusa Penida and the day trip from Bali.
Highlights

The "T-Rex" profile
From the main viewpoint the cliff stands out like a dinosaur's head above a turquoise bay. The view is wide from the first steps, so you do not need to go down to see it.

The beach below
At the bottom, a small white-sand beach between rocks, very exposed to swell. The path is steep and partly made of loose stones: allow about 30 minutes to go down and 45 minutes to climb back according to a travel guide, more in the heat.

Tips
- The Kelingking entry fee, long 10,000 IDR, rose to about 25,000 IDR per adult (15,000 per child) under Klungkung's new per-site fee system, announced for summer 2026; payment is cashless and dates and amounts differ in the press, so check at the entrance. On top come the Bali tourist levy of 150,000 IDR per person and the island entry fee paid on arrival. The stairs: a first section in concrete, then a path of rock and earth with makeshift railings; it is dangerous in wet weather, with slippery shoes or if you are afraid of heights. With children, knee problems or little water, stay at the viewpoint. Do not swim: the current is strong and the beach is not supervised; drownings have been reported in the local press. An elevator project on the cliff is suspended according to international press: do not count on it. Bring water, a hat and good shoes, and do not go near the edge for a photo.
How to get there
Kelingking is in the west of Nusa Penida, about 1 hour by road from the ports of Toyapakeh and Banjar Nyuh depending on the state of the road (approximate time). You need a driver, a scooter (risky) or a tour with transfer; see the west or east tour. From Bali you cross by fast boat from Sanur.
