Swimming with manta rays at Nusa Penida: prices, season and tours
Manta Point, on the south-west coast of Nusa Penida, is the spot where you snorkel with oceanic manta rays, about an hour from Bali by fast boat. You go by tour boat, with mask and snorkel, from Nusa Penida or from Sanur. According to booking pages consulted in October 2026, plan on about 25 to 35 dollars for a short snorkelling trip on Penida, and about 156 dollars for a six-hour day from Sanur with three stops, lunch and equipment. A conservation fee of 100,000 rupiah per person is advertised, sometimes extra and in cash. Rays are never guaranteed.
Highlights

The manta rays
Rays several metres across glide near the surface, often a few metres from swimmers. Operators remind visitors that these are wild animals: do not touch them or chase them.

Crystal Bay and the other stops
Snorkelling trips usually link Manta Point with other sites such as Gamat Bay and Crystal Bay, for a calmer swim after the viewing spot. See also Nusa Penida in a day: which tour to book.
The land side
Some packages add Kelingking and west-coast beaches (see Kelingking Beach); others, cheaper, are limited to the boat (2 to 3 hours).

Tips
- Ask what the price includes: transfer from Sanur, fast boat, lunch, equipment and the conservation fee (advertised at 100,000 rupiah, not included in some prices). Travellers report swell, a rough boat ride, crowds at Manta Point and, one day, jellyfish: if you get seasick, take a tablet in advance. Good swimming helps; a life jacket is provided. If Manta Point cannot be used (swell, weather), one operator offers another site or a refund: ask for the rule before booking. To choose between the west and east of the island, see Nusa Penida: east or west tour. Indicative operator prices, to be confirmed.
How to get there
From Sanur, the fast boat takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach Nusa Penida; tours usually include hotel pickup and the transfer to the harbour (45 minutes to 1.5 hours from Ubud, Canggu or Seminyak). See Nusa Penida for the island.
