Crystal Bay (Nusa Penida): sunset, snorkeling, price and how to get there
Crystal Bay is a white-sand bay on Nusa Penida's west coast, facing the sunset: it is the island's easiest beach for swimming, snorkeling from the shore and watching the sun go down. Allow 1 to 2 hours. According to guides consulted in October 2026, the beach itself is free (parking 5,000 or 10,000 IDR depending on the source); one guide also mentions an island levy of 25,000 IDR per adult, paid in cash on landing. No official source found: confirm on the spot.
Highlights

The bay
Pale sand, turquoise water and small fishing boats: the bay is sheltered compared with the southern and eastern cliffs, which makes it a restful stop after the stairs at Kelingking.
Snorkeling from the beach
You walk into the water straight from the sand; gear rental is around 50,000 IDR according to one guide. Currents can be strong in places depending on tide and swell: stay near the shore if you are not confident. To swim with rays, see Manta Point instead.
The sunset
The bay faces west: it is one of the best places on the island for the evening sun, with a few beach bars. Arrive an hour early.
Practical info
Tips
- Pay in cash and keep small change. Swimsuit, water shoes or sandals, sunscreen, towel. For tours that include Crystal Bay (often the west side with Kelingking, Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong), see east or west tour on Nusa Penida and Nusa Penida in one day. A boat snorkeling trip sometimes includes Crystal Bay among three stops (about 30 dollars on an offer seen in October 2026).
How to get there
From Sanur, the fast boat takes about 30 minutes to Nusa Penida; from there, allow 20 to 30 minutes by scooter or car from the west-side harbour (guides' estimates). Simplest is a driver or a tour; scooters rent for 70,000 to 100,000 IDR a day, but roads are damaged and steep. See Nusa Penida.
