Kintamani in Bali: Mount Batur viewpoint, entry fee and which tour to book

Updated on October 25, 2026

Kintamani is the village on the rim of the Batur caldera, about 1 hour by car from Ubud (estimate). People come for the view of the volcano and the lake, a café on a terrace and, often, a tour that links it with Tirta Empul or Tegenungan. Several guides give an area fee of 50,000 rupiah per foreign adult and 30,000 per child in 2026, but sources disagree and Bangli plans online payment: ask your driver or the entry post. Plan 1 to 2 hours for the view and a coffee, half a day with the lake and the hot springs. Information found in October 2026 in guides, with no official source.

Highlights

Batur and its lake from the rim

The classic view: the volcano cone, the black lava flow and Lake Batur below. The cafés along the Penelokan road (the rim road) have the best terraces; several open from 5:30 according to one guide.

The view is clearest in the morning; clouds often rise around 9:00 or 10:00 and hide the volcano, so arrive early.

Which option to choose

Three price points found on GetYourGuide in October 2026: a shared sunrise jeep with hot springs, from about 20 USD; a downhill bike ride from Kintamani to Ubud (about 80% downhill, lunch included), from about 20 USD; a private Ubud and Kintamani day with Tegenungan, Tirta Empul, Tegallalang and the monkey forest, from about 58 USD per person. A private 3-hour outing (Tegallalang, Batur view, coffee) starts around 27 USD. To climb the volcano itself, see Mount Batur at sunrise: which tour and Mount Batur.

Practical info

Tips

  • Come early (6:00 to 8:00) for the view; around noon the buses arrive and clouds cover the volcano. It is cooler than in Ubud: bring a light jacket. Vendors and touts for buffet restaurants work the rim; the buffets are often expensive for what they offer, so compare and check prices on the menu before you sit down. Keep cash for the area fee and parking. To combine it with the region, see Ubud in one day: which tour to choose and private driver in Bali. Unofficial prices, to confirm on site.

How to get there

About 1 hour by car from Ubud (estimate, depending on traffic); most visitors come with a driver or a tour that stops at Kintamani on the way between waterfalls and temples. By scooter the climb is long and cool: only for confident riders.

Opening hours

Best: Early morning, 6:00 to 8:00
Viewpoints are open access; some cafés open from about 5:30; area fee of about 50, 000 rupiah per foreign adult and 30, 000 per child according to 2026 guides (online payment being set up by Bangli district, to confirm on site).
