The options in detail
Group with transfer. You are picked up at your hotel between about 1 am and 3 am, with headlamp, guide and breakfast at the summit. It is the simplest solution, especially from Ubud, Canggu or Seminyak. Check the group size and the return time.
Private. You choose the time and pace, and partly avoid the line of headlamps on the trail. Useful with children or fragile knees. Ask what is included (breakfast, transport, fees).
With hot springs, coffee or bike. Some offers add a soak, a coffee tasting or a bike ride down. They lengthen the day: allow more time and a bigger budget.
Without transfer. A travel blog notes an access fee of about IDR 100,000 per person and a guide at IDR 300,000 to 600,000 per group, unofficial figures: confirm them. A licensed guide is required at the trailhead according to the villages. Only if you have a driver or a scooter you can rely on at night.
What to compare
- Return transfer: from which area, at what extra cost?
- Breakfast: included or not, and what kind.
- Group size: small group or a large group of dozens of people.
- Cancellation: free or not, important in the rainy season.
- Equipment: lamp, jacket, poles depending on the offer.
When to go
The dry season (roughly April to October) gives the clearest skies; from November to March the summit is often in cloud. Keep a spare day and check the operator's postponement policy. See Bali in July 2027 and Bali in August 2027.
After the climb
You have the day left to follow up with the Tegallalang rice terraces or compare with a one-day visit of Ubud. If you prefer to choose your time, a private driver works well.
