Kuta, Legian or Seminyak?

The good and the limits

  • Close to the airport: useful for an early flight or a one-night stopover.
  • Beach: wide, popular for surf lessons; swimming needs care because of currents, follow the lifeguards' flags.
  • Going out: bars, clubs and restaurants on foot, but also pushy sellers.
  • Noise: ask for a room away from the street and not above a bar.
  • Traffic: jams are common; Grab and Gojek help, see Grab and Gojek in Bali.

Three real hotels in Kuta and Legian (listings read on 29 October 2026)

Facts come from Expedia, Booking and travel-guide listings read on 29 October 2026; distances to the beach differ between sources.

  • Padma Resort Legian. Described as a 432-room luxury resort on 6.8 acres of tropical gardens near the beach, with a children's pool and waterslide. Why pick it: family facilities and gardens in a busy area. Limit: one guide says it sits a bit farther from the sand than a "beachfront" label suggests.
  • Legian Beach Hotel (Jalan Melasti, Legian). Described as a beachfront resort overlooking Legian Beach, with an adults-only pool, a family pool and a kids' club. Why pick it: both a quiet adult pool and a family pool. Limit: one listing puts the beach about 350 feet away, so "beachfront" is not literal for every room.
  • Mercure Bali Legian. Described as a four-pearl, 321-room upscale hotel with modern design in a tropical setting. Why pick it: a mid-upper Legian address with a modern look. Limit: I did not confirm its pool or beach access in the listings I read.

Hotel pick: Legian Beach Hotel (Booking score 8.9, read 30 October 2026): address: Jl. Melasti, Legian; listed as beachfront, family rooms listed, guests rate the location 9.4. Limit: its lowest Booking sub-scores are free Wi-Fi (7.9) and value for money (8.3).

Hotel pick: Mercure Bali Legian (Booking score 8.5, read 30 October 2026): address: Jalan Legian 328, Legian; with a pool, guests rate the staff 9.2. Limit: its lowest Booking sub-scores are free Wi-Fi (8.2) and value for money (8.4).

Our advice

Stay in Kuta or Legian for a stopover or a lively first evening, then move on to a calmer area. See Bali nightlife and scams in Bali, and to compare, where to stay in Bali.
