Diamond Beach (Nusa Penida): price, stairs, opening hours and best time

Updated on October 25, 2026

Diamond Beach is a white-sand beach ringed by cliffs in the east of Nusa Penida, famous for its staircase cut into the rock and the islets rising from the turquoise water. Many come for the photo from the top of the stairs; allow 1 to 2 hours for the viewpoint, 2 to 3 with the descent. Guides consulted in October 2026 give an entry fee of about 35,000 IDR, parking included, payable in cash on arrival (a March 2026 guide quotes 45,000 IDR for a combined Diamond and Atuh ticket): confirm on site. Swimming is not recommended.

From the start of the stairs the view takes in the beach, the cliffs and the islets. This is the photo people come for, before the crowd.

The stairs

They go down to the beach by steps cut into the limestone; the lower part is worn according to a 2026 guide. If you have vertigo or poor shoes, stop at the swing level. Next door, Atuh Beach is calmer and easier to reach. For the rest of the island, see Nusa Penida, Kelingking Beach and East or West: which tour to choose.

Practical info

Tips

  • Arrive before 7:15 if you want the stairs photo without a crowd: groups arrive around 8:30 and the car park fills around 9:00, according to one guide. Do not swim: the rip current is strong and waves can surprise you. Bring water, a hat and good shoes. On top comes Bali's tourist levy of 150,000 IDR per person on arrival on the island (see visa and tourist levy in Bali). For logistics, see Nusa Penida in one day.

How to get there

Diamond Beach is in the east of Nusa Penida, about 1 hour from the ports depending on the state of the roads (estimate). From Bali you take a fast boat from Sanur, then a driver or a tour on the island; a scooter is risky on the roads of the east.

Opening hours

Best: Early morning, before 8:30
Site accessible in the daytime; entry about 35, 000 IDR, parking included, according to most guides (45,000 IDR according to another, March 2026); unofficial sources, to be confirmed on site.
