Saraswati Temple in Ubud (Pura Taman Saraswati): Lotus Ponds, Legong Dance, Price and Hours

Updated on October 25, 2026

Pura Taman Saraswati is a small temple with lotus ponds in the heart of Ubud, next to Ubud Palace and Café Lotus. It is dedicated to Saraswati, goddess of knowledge and the arts. Sources differ on entry: free according to one guide, about 35,000 to 60,000 IDR for foreigners according to others; hours are generally 7:00 to 17:00. A legong dance is performed here most evenings, for about 80,000 to 100,000 IDR. Allow 30 minutes for the visit (October 2026, unofficial guides).

Highlights

The lotus ponds and the gate

The lotus ponds and the gate

A path leads to a pond covered in lotus and a much-photographed carved gate. This is the temple's setting, brightest in the morning.

The flowering lotus

Lotus flowers colour the pond; there are more on some days, and we found no reliable calendar.

The evening legong dance

Several sources give a legong show every evening except Friday, around 19:30 to 20:30, with a ticket of about 80,000 to 100,000 IDR sold at the entrance or at Café Lotus (a minimum spend may apply for the best seats). Do not confuse it with the Ubud Palace show, which is another venue; see legong dance in Ubud.

Practical info

Tips

  • A sarong may be required: keep your knees covered. Worshippers enter outside tourist hours. Come early for photos before the groups. Combine with the Ubud art market and Ubud Palace, both on foot, and with the Monkey Forest a little further south. Prices and hours not confirmed by an official source.

How to get there

The temple is in central Ubud, on the main street (Jalan Raya Ubud), within walking distance of most central hotels. From elsewhere, see Ubud; Grab/Gojek do not always pick up in central Ubud.

Opening hours

Best: Morning, or evening for the dance
About 7:00 to 17:00 for visits according to most sources (others give 8:00 to 18:30 or 19:00); legong dance around 19:30 except Friday according to several sources. To confirm on site.
