The Ubud Art Market (Pasar Seni), opposite the palace, is the central handicraft market: textiles, rattan bags, wood carvings, paintings, jewellery, sarongs and souvenirs. Entry is free. The stated official hours are 9:00 to 17:00, but guides also give 8:00 to 18:00 or 10:00 to 17:00, and the street-side stalls often stay open later: plan to come in the morning. Bargaining is expected; guides suggest aiming for about half the first price, adjusted to the item. Prices and hours seen in guides in October 2026, with no official source.
Highlights

The market lanes
A maze of small covered lanes, very busy with tourists, with hundreds of souvenir and craft stalls. Take your time: the same item is often found at several stalls.
Endek textiles and sarongs
The traditional Balinese endek cloth, woven with dyed patterns, is a good souvenir, as are sarongs, rattan bags and straw hats. Check the stitching and feel the fabric before buying.
Carvings, paintings and jewellery
Wood carvings, masks and paintings are plentiful; quality varies widely. To see real Balinese painting before buying, stop at the Neka museum.

Tips
- Ask the price, offer about half and move up gradually while staying friendly; walking away politely is often the best negotiation. Compare two or three stalls. Carry small notes in cash, as many stalls take cash only. In the morning you are sometimes a stall's first customer, which helps on price (according to guides). The market is right opposite the palace: see Ubud for the rest of the centre. For the rest of the day, the Campuhan Ridge Walk and, in the evening, a dance show are close by.
How to get there
The market is in central Ubud, on the palace street; on foot from most central hotels. If you come by car or scooter, a small paid car park exists nearby. See private driver in Bali.
