The weather

February and January are the island's wettest months: rain often comes in short but intense showers, sometimes for several days in a row, and humidity is above 75%. Mornings are more often clear. Ubud, higher inland, is a little cooler. The start and end of the season shift from year to year: check the Indonesian weather agency (BMKG) forecast a few days before you leave. For the full-year picture, read when to visit Bali.

Crowds and prices

The island is quiet and prices are low, with one exception: Chinese New Year (6 February 2027) and the weeks around it fill some hotels. Ramadan should start around 8 February 2027 (depending on the moon); Bali being mostly Hindu, the effect on visits is limited. To estimate your budget, see Bali travel budget.

What to do

Where to stay and what to book

Stay flexible: a covered plan B for each outing, and a spare day before your return flight. Volcanoes are often in cloud in February: do not put the Batur sunrise on your last day. Pick accommodation with a covered terrace or pool area, see where to stay in Bali. For rainy-day transfers a driver is safer than a scooter: private driver in Bali.
