Nungnung Waterfall (Bali): steps, price, opening hours and how to get there

Updated on October 25, 2026

Nungnung waterfall, in the Petang district (Badung area), drops into a green gorge north of the Ubud area. You earn it: about 500 steps down (509 according to one guide) and back up, so at least 1 hour round trip including the visit. Guides consulted in October 2026 give a ticket of about 20,000 IDR for foreigners plus parking of 2,000 to 5,000 IDR, ticket booth open 9 am to 4 pm; no official source: confirm on site. It is less crowded than Tegenungan.

Another waterfall in the region (Tegenungan, for comparison)

We have no free photo of Nungnung; Tegenungan, closer to Ubud, is smaller and far more visited. Nungnung is wilder and less developed.

The staircase

It is wide, with handrails and small shelters to catch your breath, but very long. The descent takes about 15 minutes according to one guide; the climb back is the hard part, especially in the heat.

The pool

You can get close to the foot of the fall; the noise and spray are strong, and swimming is limited depending on the water level. To compare with other falls, see the waterfalls of Bali and Tegenungan.

Practical info

Tips

  • Shoes with grip, water, quick-drying clothes, waterproof bag; the ticket booth is far from the fall, so keep small change. Access roads can be damaged after heavy rain (a tour review mentions it). Most tours combine it with the Jatiluwih rice terraces and Ulun Danu Beratan temple: see Jatiluwih and Ulun Danu Beratan. To hire a car with driver, see private driver in Bali.

How to get there

Nungnung is about 1 h 15 to 1 h 45 by road from Ubud (estimate), via Petang; one guide adds about 15 minutes from the village. A driver or tour is recommended; a scooter is possible for experienced riders.

Opening hours

Best: At opening, around 9 am
Ticket booth 9 am to 4 pm according to guides; the fall itself has no gate. Foreigner: about 20, 000 IDR (locals 10,000), parking 2, 000 to 5, 000 IDR (unofficial, to be confirmed on site).
