Ulun Danu Beratan Temple in Bedugul: ticket price, opening hours and how to visit
Ulun Danu Beratan is a Balinese Hindu temple on the shore of Lake Beratan, in the highlands of Bedugul in central-north Bali. Its multi-roofed shrines (meru) seem to float on the water, especially on misty mornings, and the temple appears on the 50,000 rupiah banknote. Sources checked in October 2026 give about 75,000 rupiah per foreign adult and 50,000 per child; the most quoted hours are 7:00 to 19:00, but some sources say 8:00 to 18:00 and none is official: confirm on site. Allow one to two hours for the visit.
Highlights

The shrines on the lake
This is the classic view: the meru are reflected in the water with mountains behind. The gardens around the temple are well kept and you can walk through them freely.

The main temple
The temple is dedicated to the water goddess, on whom the island's rice-field irrigation depends. Non-Hindus look at the shrines from the gardens; the areas reserved for prayer are not open to visitors.
The gardens and the lakeside
You can stroll through the park, see small pavilions, a large Buddha and a stupa, and pedal boats or motor boats are sometimes offered on the lake (ask for prices on site).
Practical info
Tips
- The ticket is paid in cash according to several guides. Parking costs a few thousand rupiah (about 3,000 for a scooter, 5,000 for a car according to one guide). Dress properly: shoulders and knees covered, and a sarong is usually provided or lent on site. The site is above 1,000 m: the air is cool and there can be rain or fog, so bring a light jacket. Arrive early, before the tour groups, for the morning light. The temple combines well with the rice terraces of Jatiluwih and with northern waterfalls such as Sekumpul or Munduk. This information comes from travel guides, not from the official site.
How to get there
Bedugul is about 1.5 to 2 hours from Ubud by car, depending on traffic (estimate), and a little more from the south of the island. The easiest way is a private driver or a tour that links the temple, the rice terraces and a waterfall. See private driver in Bali and Bali in 3 days.
