Munduk: waterfalls, plantations and what to do in north Bali

Updated on October 24, 2026

Munduk is a mountain village in north Bali, above Bedugul, among forested hills, gardens and plantations. The air is cool, the pace is slow, and the village is a base for the region's waterfalls, which are quieter than the sites in the south. Sources checked in October 2026 give about 20,000 to 50,000 rupiah entrance per waterfall (Banyumala about 50,000 according to a more recent source, Git Git about 20,000, Golden Valley with no official fee although a small donation may be asked); none is official: confirm at the entrance.

Highlights

The waterfalls

The waterfalls

The area has several falls, including Munduk, Melanting, Golden Valley, the Banyumala twin falls and Git Git by the roadside. They are a few kilometres apart: you visit two or three in a day, on foot or by car.

The hills and the forest

The hills and the forest

Trails between plantations, coffee terraces and mountain villas: walks and short guided hikes can be done in a day.

The plantations

The hills around Munduk grow coffee and cloves among other crops according to several guides; some farms offer tastings (ask for prices).

Practical info

Tips

  • Bring good shoes and a rain layer: the altitude keeps the air cool and fog is frequent. Trails to the waterfalls are slippery after rain. Entrance fees are paid in cash. Munduk is far from the south: many visitors sleep there one night while combining Ulun Danu Beratan, Sekumpul and the dolphins of Lovina. To choose where to stay, see where to stay in Bali. This information comes from travel guides, not from an official site.

How to get there

Munduk is about 2 to 2.5 hours by car from Ubud (estimate), via Bedugul. There is no practical public transport: take a private driver, or a tour that combines the waterfalls and the Bedugul temple. See private driver in Bali and Bali in 3 days.

Opening hours

Best: Morning, in the dry season
The village is always open; the waterfalls have their own hours, generally during the day. Indicative entrance fees: 20, 000 to 50, 000 rupiah per waterfall (unofficial, to confirm).
