Lake Tamblingan in Bali: Canoe, Hike, Ulun Danu Temple and Prices
Lake Tamblingan is a small forest-ringed lake in the Munduk area of north Bali, twin of the neighbouring Lake Buyan. It has a lakeside temple (Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan), hiking trails and dugout canoes. Entry costs about 20,000 IDR according to a 2026 guide (10,000 to 30,000 IDR in other sources), covering the lake and the temple; canoe and guided hike are extra. Allow 2 to 3 hours on site. The journeys are long: 1 h 30 to 2 h from Ubud, Canggu or Kuta (October 2026, unofficial guides).
Highlights

The lake and its temple
A calm lake in the forest, with the temple at the water's edge. The place for a quiet walk, away from the Bedugul crowds.

The canoe and the hike
A 2.5-hour outing combining a forest hike, the temple and a canoe is offered from about 18 to 20 USD on GetYourGuide; a version with a waterfall lasts longer (up to 7-8 hours with a bamboo-weaving workshop), rated 4.9 from about 600 reviews for one listing. Suggested age: 13 and over for the hike; moderate fitness.
The trail steps
Visitors report more than 400 slippery steps without a handrail on one route: good shoes are essential.

Tips
- Sources disagree on hours (9:00 to 17:00 for one, open 24 hours for another, for camping, with small fees). Come early: the air is cooler and the mist makes for photos. Combine with Munduk, the Banyumala waterfall and Bedugul; see also Ulun Danu Beratan temple and Bali waterfalls. A driver is advised (private driver in Bali).
How to get there
The lake is in Munduk, about 1 h 30 to 2 h from the tourist areas of the south, Ubud or Canggu (estimate, per guides). Rent a car with driver, or a scooter if you are comfortable on mountain roads.
