Handara Gate (Bedugul): price, opening hours, photo queue and access
The Handara gate is a much-photographed black stone gateway with two split towers, beside the road between Bedugul and Munduk, in the village of Pancasari, in the mountains of north Bali. Allow 1 to 3 hours, mostly because of the photo queue. According to guides consulted in October 2026, entry costs about 50,000 IDR for a foreign visitor (30,000 for an Indonesian), cash only; hours differ (6:00 to 19:00, 6:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 17:30, or 8:00 to 17:00) and the wait runs from 30 minutes to 2 hours, up to 3 hours at peak times. No official source found: confirm on the spot.
Highlights

The split gate
Two towers of dark carved stone frame the path and the mountain behind: it is the signature photo. Staff organise the queue and the shot, often with ceremonial parasols.
The queue
The crowd builds all day: the most reliable way to shorten the wait is to arrive at opening.
Drones
According to one guide, drones cost extra (200,000 IDR) and are allowed only around the gate.
Practical info
Tips
- Bring cash. If you also visit Ulun Danu Beratan temple, it is nearby but has its own ticket (about 75,000 IDR for an adult on one listing, a separate site). Combine with Munduk and Banyumala twin waterfall, or the Jatiluwih rice terraces. For another famous gate, see Lempuyang, the Gates of Heaven. A driver for the day is the most practical: see private driver in Bali.
How to get there
On the main road between Bedugul and Munduk, at Pancasari; about 1.5 to 2 hours from Ubud and more from the south (estimates, depending on traffic). Driver or a tour to the north; scooter possible for experienced riders.
