Taman Ujung (Karangasem): price, opening hours, what to see and how to get there
Taman Ujung, or Ujung Water Palace, is a former royal palace in Karangasem, East Bali, made of pools, pavilions and bridges reflected in the water, with the sea and Mount Agung behind. Allow 1 to 1.5 hours on site. Sources consulted in October 2026 give a foreigner fee of about 100,000 IDR (two older sources say 50,000), from 7 am to 7 pm, with parking of a few thousand rupiah; no official price list found: confirm at the entrance. It is much quieter than nearby Tirta Gangga.
Highlights

The main building and pools
The central pavilion is reflected in the large pool, surrounded by gardens. This is the classic view, best early in the morning or late afternoon.

The bridges and the sea view
Raised walkways cross the pools and lead to pavilions with views of the coast. A few flights of stairs are involved.
A rebuilt palace
The site was built by the kings of Karangasem in the early 20th century, then damaged by 20th-century disasters (notably the 1963 Agung eruption) and restored; exact dates are to be checked with the site. For the neighbouring palace, see Tirta Gangga.
Practical info
Tips
- There is little shade: bring a hat, water and comfortable shoes. Professional photo shoots (weddings, models) are by reservation and cost extra, according to one source. The site combines very well with Tirta Gangga, Lempuyang and its Gates of Heaven and Amed in one long day from Ubud; compare the options in Ubud in one day: which tour to choose and consider a private driver.
How to get there
Ujung is near Amlapura, on the Karangasem coast, about 1 h 45 to 2 h by road from Ubud (estimate); Tirta Gangga is about twenty minutes away (estimate). A driver or tour is recommended; a scooter is possible but the road is long.
