Batu Bolong
Guides call it the centre of Canggu: cafés, restaurants, bars and beach access on foot, so practical for a first visit without a scooter. It is also the noisiest and busiest area, especially in high season. A mid-range hotel named nearby is Ecosfera Hotel.
Berawa
Berawa is described as a lively, fast-building area between central Canggu and Seminyak, with many good restaurants, cafés and modern hotels. A hotel named by guides is Swarga Suites Bali Berawa. Ideal if you want both atmospheres.
Echo Beach
Calmer and closer to the waves, Echo Beach has a growing number of boutique hotels and beach bars; COMO Uma Canggu is named as a high-end resort, and Ecozy Dijiwa Canggu by guides. For sunset and the area's beach clubs, see Bali's beach clubs.
Pererenan
The quietest, between rice fields and villas, liked by expats and couples. IZE Canggu is named. You need a way to get around (scooter rental or Grab and Gojek).
Canggu or Seminyak?
Canggu: relaxed, surf and cafés, see Canggu and surf lessons in Canggu. Seminyak: smarter and pricier (where to stay in Seminyak).
