Surf Lessons in Canggu and Kuta: Price, Beginner Spots and Which School
A beginner surf lesson in Canggu usually lasts 2 hours and costs about 25 to 31 USD (about 22 euros on one listing) with a board, rash guard and sunscreen; 1-hour lessons are a little cheaper, and 3 or 5-day courses work out cheaper per session (about 80 and 120 USD on one listing). The reference spot for learning is Batu Bolong, where the waves are regular and where most schools have their meeting point. Prices seen in October 2026 on booking sites: confirm them, they vary by school and season.

You start on the sand with technique (standing up on the board), then spend about an hour in the water with an instructor for at most two students on some offers. Very stable foam boards are provided.
Which school to choose
Look for a certified instructor (ISA or lifeguard), a small group (two students per instructor or a private lesson), equipment included and recent reviews. Nyangko Surf School and We Surf Bali (meeting at the Batu Bolong car park) are among the schools listed on booking platforms; the list is not exhaustive.
The other spots
Berawa for small-group lessons, Echo Beach for more experienced surfers; at Kuta the long sandy beach is a beginner classic (not checked against an official source).

Tips
- Hotel transfer is often not included: ask. Bring swimwear, a towel and sunglasses, as the water and sand are warm but shade is scarce. Do not buy a lesson from a tout on the beach: book ahead, with recent reviews. As a beginner, do not surf alone between lessons: rip currents exist along the coast. How to get there
Batu Bolong is in the centre of Canggu; the meeting point is often the beach car park. From the airport, allow 45 minutes to 1.5 hours (see from Bali airport to Ubud, Canggu or Seminyak). Seminyak is 15 to 30 minutes by road.
