Batu Bolong Beach in Canggu: Beginner Surf, Lessons, Tides and Where to Eat
Batu Bolong is Canggu's central and busiest beach: a soft wave for learning and for longboards, surf schools lined up on the sand and a street of cafés and bars behind. Access is free. Surf works best at mid to high tide according to guides; budget 22 to 27 USD for a 2-hour lesson with a board, the most booked option on GetYourGuide (about 1,500 reviews, 4.8/5, October 2026). One source says the beach has no lifeguard patrol.

The beach and the take-off
Surfers paddle out in front of the car park, where the Old Man's spot is also found, suited to beginners and longboards. In the morning the waves are the least crowded with experienced surfers but the fullest of students.
The surf lesson

Tips
- Guides disagree on the bottom (sand for some, a few rocks for others): ask the school before going out with a board. Boards are rented by the half day or day near the car park. Swimming is mainly a complement to surfing: currents are possible and we found no lifeguards. Intermediate surfers may prefer Berawa or see surf spots by level. How to get there
