Echo Beach in Canggu: Surf, Sunset, Swimming and Access (2026)
Echo Beach (Pantai Batu Mejan) is a wide black-sand beach at a river mouth between Batu Bolong and Pererenan in Canggu. People come for the sunset from the cafés above the beach and for a reef left break meant for advanced surfers; swimming is not advised and red flags are posted. Public parking costs about IDR 2,000 to 5,000 (unofficial, October 2026) and taxi apps do not enter the beach area.
Highlights

The sunset
The cafés and the La Brisa beach club overlook the beach; crowds arrive early, so come well before sunset for a front-row spot. The warungs along the paved lane serve grilled food and light meals.
The surf
A reef left (Echo Beach Left), plus the sandbar and the river mouth: best at mid to high tide and more for advanced surfers. Board rental shops line the access lane. To learn, the neighbouring beach of Batu Bolong is gentler; see also surf lessons in Canggu.

Tips
- Do not swim: the current is strong. The black sand gets very hot, so wear sandals. The water can be dirty in the rainy season. The rocks on the left are exposed at low tide. For clubs in the area, see Bali's beach clubs.
How to get there
At the end of Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan. From Berawa, 15 to 20 minutes; from Seminyak, 30 to 40 minutes; from the airport, about 2 hours depending on traffic (unofficial). Grab and Gojek drop you at the corner of the street and you walk to the beach (Grab and Gojek in Bali).
