The summary

Padang Padang beach, in Uluwatu

Padang Padang and Labuan Sait

This is the area guides cite most for a first visit: cafés and restaurants on foot, and Padang Padang beach nearby. One hotel named by a guide is Suarga Padang Padang. It is also the busiest area, so more people and more noise.

Bingin

Bingin is described as a surf village with a local soul, liked by couples and small families. But beach access has been disrupted: in July 2025 the authorities demolished about 48 structures on the cliff, and a staged rebuilding plan is announced for 2026 and 2027. Read Bingin Beach and check the current state before booking here. One hotel named by a guide is Melali Bingin.

Pecatu and central Uluwatu

Pecatu is the area of the Uluwatu temple and the south-west coast, with stays at all levels. Hotels named by guides for the area include Radisson Blu Bali Uluwatu and Hidden Hills Villas. To see the sunset at the temple, see also kecak dance at Uluwatu.

Balangan and Ungasan

Balangan is quieter. Ungasan and its cliffs host luxury hotels with ocean views: Six Senses Uluwatu is named by guides. These areas are further from everything: count on a driver or a scooter.

Getting around

The area is hilly and spread out: a scooter (see scooter rental in Bali) or a driver (see private driver in Bali) is advised by several guides. For dinner on the beach, see Jimbaran.
