Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu: show times, tickets and tips

Updated on October 23, 2026

Kecak is a Balinese dance performed without an orchestra: around fifty men sit in circles chanting "cak-cak-cak" and act out an episode of the Ramayana, with the monkey Hanuman and a fire scene. At Uluwatu the show is staged in an amphitheatre of the temple, facing the sunset over the ocean. Sources checked in October 2026 give about 150,000 rupiah per adult (75,000 to 100,000 for a child) and one performance a day in the late afternoon. Prices and times come from blogs and resellers, not an official site: confirm before you buy.

Highlights

The circle of chanters

The circle of chanters

Men in checked waist cloths form concentric circles and drive the story with their voices. The tale follows Rama, Sita and Hanuman; an English synopsis is often handed out at the entrance.

The fire dance

Near the end, the dancer playing Hanuman is surrounded by flames. The show is outdoors, inside the temple grounds, with the sea behind the dancers.

The sunset

The timing is chosen for the light. Front-row seats go fast: arrive earlier than the stated time, especially in July and August.

Practical info

Tips

  • The show ticket and the entrance to Uluwatu Temple are separate according to several sources; check what is included before you book online. Some guides say the show starts at 18:00, others at 19:00 or in between: the time follows sunset, so check it on your ticket. The show lasts about an hour. Seats are stepped benches with no shade: arrive a little early and bring water. The monkeys on the site can steal glasses and phones: see the temple advice. To book, compare a ticket alone with a tour that includes transport and a seafood dinner in Jimbaran. For other dances, see dance shows in Ubud.

How to get there

The show is inside Uluwatu Temple, 25 to 30 km from the airport (estimate). After the show, taxis are scarce and traffic is slow: book a driver who waits or a tour with a return trip. See private driver in Bali.
