Nyang Nyang Beach (Uluwatu): stairs, access, price and tips

Updated on October 25, 2026

Nyang Nyang is a long, wild, little-developed white-sand beach on the Pecatu coast of the Bukit Peninsula. You reach it by a stepped path that goes down the cliff through vegetation: allow 15 to 20 minutes down and more back up, and 2 to 3 hours in all. According to guides consulted in October 2026, the entry is token (about 5,000 IDR or a donation at the booth) and sources contradict each other on parking. No official source found: confirm on the spot.

Highlights

The beach

The beach

A big arc of pale sand, almost without buildings or crowds, at the foot of cliffs. It is one of the calmest beaches in Uluwatu, far from the Padang Padang atmosphere.

The staircase

Guides give 130 to 500 steps depending on how they count. The path is steep and can be slippery; the climb back is the tiring part, especially in the sun.

To swim or not

The beach is exposed to open sea: waves and currents can be powerful and there is no lifeguard post. People come to walk, rest and watch the sunset rather than to swim. For easier beaches, see Padang Padang, Bingin or Balangan; to compare, Uluwatu beaches.

Practical info

Tips

  • Park at the top of the cliff; the small access road is steep and winding, for experienced scooter riders only. Closed shoes or sturdy sandals, water and snacks: there are very few stalls. Climb back before dark, the path is not lit. Bring small change.

How to get there

Pecatu coast, in the south of the Bukit Peninsula; simplest with a driver or ride-hailing taxi (see Uluwatu), otherwise scooter for experienced riders. Journey times depend on traffic: ask your accommodation.

Opening hours

Best: Morning or late afternoon
No official hours found; the beach is reachable during the day (the path is not lit at night). Entry about 5, 000 IDR or a donation, parking free or cheap depending on the source (unofficial, to be confirmed).
