Padang Padang Beach (Uluwatu): price, stairs, tide and best time
Padang Padang is a small white-sand beach between cliffs in Uluwatu, reached through a narrow gap in the rock and then a staircase of about 100 to 120 steps (according to a 2026 guide). It is famous for its surf waves reserved for experienced surfers and for its turquoise water. According to guides consulted in October 2026, entry costs about 15,000 IDR per adult and 10,000 IDR per child, cash (one guide says 10,000 IDR), and the beach is open from about 7:00 to 19:00. Allow 1 to 2 hours. The beach shrinks at high tide: check the tides before coming. Unofficial prices, to be confirmed.
Highlights

The beach between the cliffs
A narrow beach of pale sand, with rocks and clear water. It is also a good place to watch surfers out at sea. For other nearby beaches, see the beaches of Uluwatu.

Practical info
Tips
- Bring sandals with grip: the stairs are steep and slippery, and the site is not wheelchair accessible. Macaques live in the area: hide food and glasses. Parking costs about 2,000 IDR for a scooter and 3,000 to 5,000 for a car according to one guide. At high tide the beach is reduced and waves reach the rocks; swimming is dangerous in swell. To combine with the temple and the kecak, see the kecak dance at Uluwatu and private driver in Bali.
How to get there
Padang Padang is on the Uluwatu coast, about 1 hour from the airport, and longer from Ubud depending on traffic (estimate). Driver, ride-hailing taxi or scooter for confident riders.
