Taman Ayun Temple (Mengwi): price, opening hours and visiting the royal temple

Updated on October 25, 2026

Pura Taman Ayun is the royal temple of Mengwi, in the Badung area, north-west of Denpasar: a large complex surrounded by ponds and gardens, with multi-roofed shrines (merus). Allow 1 to 1.5 hours. According to guides consulted in October 2026, entry costs about 30,000 IDR for a foreign adult, sarong included (other guides give 20,000 to 50,000), and the site opens about 8:00 to 18:00 (one guide says 6:15, others 9:00 or 17:00). No official source found: confirm on the spot.

Highlights

The shrines and ponds

The shrines and ponds

The stacked black roofs of the merus are reflected in the ponds around the temple. The setting is airier and calmer than many temples in the south, and the walks are short.

The courtyards

The temple is made of several successive courtyards, the most sacred of them reserved for worshippers: you view the whole from the permitted paths and terraces.

An easy stop

Taman Ayun is on the road between the south and the north of the island: it combines well with Tanah Lot temple, Ulun Danu Beratan and the Jatiluwih rice terraces.

Daily, about 8:00 to 18:00 according to most guides (guides vary); foreign adult about 30
