Why this order
Ubud first, because you arrive tired and the town is walkable. The south coast second: it is 30 to 60 minutes from the airport, which protects the flight home. Nusa Penida is the heaviest day; do not leave it for the last one.
Getting between bases
Ubud to Uluwatu takes about 1h30 to 2h30 depending on traffic. A private driver is cheaper than expected when you share it: prices and tips. Renting a scooter is not advised without the right licence: scooter guide.
Budget
Main costs are lodging, the driver, the boat and two or three paid activities. Our detailed figures are in Bali budget. Over 5 days, one driver for the Tegallalang day and one Ubud to Uluwatu transfer are enough; use ride-hailing for the rest (Grab and Gojek).
Variations
- More beach: replace the second Ubud day with Canggu (where to stay).

The Uluwatu kecak happens at sunset at the temple: book ahead in high season.
