Green rice fields near Ubud

Where to stay: Ubud or the coast

Ubud suits most retreats: calm, rice fields and healthy food, with the Monkey Forest and temples close by (see Ubud and the Campuhan Ridge walk). The coast (Canggu, Uluwatu) mixes yoga, surf and beach life, with more noise. To compare areas, read where to stay in Bali.

One-week retreat, drop-in classes or a wellness day

Three formats exist. The organised retreat includes accommodation, meals and two sessions a day: simplest, but priciest. Drop-in classes are paid at the studio: worthwhile if you rent a villa or room yourself. The wellness day (yoga, massage, purification ceremony) suits those who do not want to block a week. Always check what the price covers: meals, transfers, massages, excursions.

When to go

Yoga runs all year. The dry season, April to October, offers more light and fewer showers; from November to March rain is frequent but studios are quieter and prices lower. See when to visit Bali. Avoid Nyepi, the Day of Silence (8 March 2027): Nyepi 2027.

What to plan around the retreat

Keep a day or two for a massage in Ubud, a cooking class or the Batur sunrise. For the visa and tourist levy, see Bali visa and tourist levy, and for insurance, travel insurance for Bali.
