The weather
April is a turning month: the first days can still be wet, then skies clear. Mornings are the safest time for the volcano, temples and rice fields, which stay green. The start of the dry season varies from year to year: check the Indonesian weather agency (BMKG) forecast before leaving. The full calendar is in when to visit Bali.
Crowds and prices
The island is less full than in July and August. Spring holidays around Easter (28 March 2027) push crowds and prices up in the first days of the month; after that, April is one of the best-value months. To estimate your budget, see Bali travel budget.
What to do
- Volcano: sunrises are more often clear; compare options in which Mount Batur tour.
- Sea: Nusa Penida gets easier; see Nusa Penida east or west.
- Waterfalls: still well fed, see Sekumpul and Bali's waterfalls.
- Diving and snorkelling: visibility improves, for example at Amed and Tulamben.
Where to stay and what to book
Book accommodation early if your stay falls in the Easter holidays; afterwards you can find space a few weeks ahead. Put Batur or Nusa Penida early in your stay to keep a spare day. See where to stay in Bali and private driver in Bali.
